DPI controls rasterization scale
A PDF page is vector or page-layout content until it is rendered. Choosing 300 DPI tells the converter to rasterize the physical page at a higher pixel density than 96 or 150 DPI.
The final pixel dimensions still depend on the physical size of the page.
Use 300 DPI when detail matters
Printing, archival previews, OCR preprocessing and design workflows can benefit from the additional pixels. For ordinary chat or web previews, 150 DPI is often a better balance.
Higher DPI increases memory and file size
Doubling the linear resolution creates roughly four times as many pixels. Large PDFs should therefore be rendered page by page rather than loading all full-resolution canvases at once.
